Series 5 of The Sarah Jane Adventures aired in October 2011. The BBC commissioned this series alongside Series 4 on the 4th of March 2010. This is the last ever series of the show due to the death of Elizabeth Sladen and was therefore replaced by Wizards vs. Aliens.

- A few seconds after Goodbye Sarah Jane Smith was aired a image was shown confirming to the public that "Sarah Jane will return in 2011".
- Floella Benjamin makes a return as Professor Celeste Rivers after appearing in The Eternity Trap.
- Jocelyn Jee Esien makes a return as Carla Langer after appearing in The Empty Planet.
- Cyri Nri makes a return as Shopkeeper after appearing in Lost in Time.
- Series 5 was set to have more episodes then it released but due to the death of Elizabeth Sladen who played the show's main character Sarah Jane Smith. The other episodes were Meet Mr Smith, The Thirteenth Floor and The Battle for Bannerman Road. All of the episodes were unproduced but The Thirteenth Floor has been set to be redone for Wizards vs. Aliens.
